Search engines are internet venues where billions of people congregate to search for information. The most prominent search engine giants are of course Google and Yahoo. The kind of traffic these dot-com companies receive per hour is fantastic.

Getting   or trying to increase   traffic to my website requires  a plan and  effort. The rewards are well worth it.

This has made SEO much more in demand in creating revenue for companies as SEO is not a paid ad but a method of intrinsically improving content.

Here are a few tips on improving content for a much more improved result in organic searches:

1.    Expertise. Follow your strengths. Sites you set up must be on topics you consider yourself an expert on. People can smell an amateur a mile away.

2.    Plan the site. A good layout for the site can improve usability. This in turn will not unnecessarily aggravate the browser.

3.    Research. Check out the competition and see what they have set up. See what works and what does not. If possible try to communicate with users in forums and get feedback on what should or can be improved further.

4.    Decide on important keywords. Decide on the most important keywords to use for your sight. Include these keywords in the metatags, copy page, page title, and file names.

5.    The Search Engine is your friend. Make friends with your search engine and don’t give it a hard time. Being nice and friendly to it will make its job easier to serve your site up to your target audience.

6.    Focus. Focus on the topic at hand and nothing else. The typical rule is one topic per page.

7.    Join the directories. Directories are repositories of knowledge done by human hands while search engine are huge databases collected by mostly machine methods. The relevancy of your page when joining the right directory may shoot through the roof. Of course, make sure you know what you are talking about.

8.    Start a linking campaign. A most effective SEO method. This is a must do. Ask your allies, strategic partners, friends and acquaintances to place your site’s URL link on their sites. With a short description this can draw traffic from other sites and increase exposure. Google especially ranks the importance of its sites by the number of sites linked to it. 

9.    Repetition is the key to victory. Keep repeating the above tips, supporting and increasing what works and killing what does not as fast as possible until the desired result is achieved.

In the world of search engine optimization, content matters a lot. If a site has amateur or worse falsified information, fewer and fewer visitors will want to visit it. They will even spread bad news faster than good news so expect a garbage site to be ignored even in a week’s time.

Article Marketing is a excellent way to get free Search engine traffic . The key is having a solid article marketing plan. You need to set a goal of writing and submitting at least one article per week to have any impact on your website traffic. You must follow through and stick to your guns and make sure you publish the number articles you have set in your plan for each month.

My article marketing plan calls for to write and submit 1 article per week for my fishing site, now some weeks I write more, but never less than 1 per week. One article may not sound like a lot but you are building links with these articles that will last a lifetime. Also quality and respectability are strong factors when writing articles. If you don’t have a goal to recognized as a expert in your selected “niche” then don’t bother with article marketing.

Also article marketing is not a quick hit marketing technique that will get you 1000’s of hits to your website. Your traffic will grow gradually over time. But I can guarantee this traffic will be quality targeted traffic. I have been using article marketing for about two years now and my sales have doubled.

I have identified below some key steps you can use to develop your own marketing plan.

#1 Like I said in my opening paragraphs above you need to identify your “niche” market to be successful with your efforts. The more specific you can be with your article marketing plan the more success you will have. You will build your whole plan based on what you choose in this step, that is why I have Identified it as #1.

#2 Create a keyword , keyword phrase list of at least 50 keyword phrases. These words need to be associated with the “niche” market you have chosen. {I do not recommend you start out targeting single keywords, select keyword phrases about your niche that are two and three words in length. Concentrate on using keyword phrases that are two and three words in length.} To be honest with you I have never done very well with single keywords in my articles. It has been my experience that single keywords do not score high for me on the search engines. To develop your keyword phrase list go to Google Adwords and use their free keyword tool. It is an excellent marketing tool. Type in a single keyword that is associated with your “niche” market. Adwords will generate a list of two and three keyword phrases for you. Make sure you download or copy this list for future use when you are writing your articles.

#3 Start writing articles that use some of the keyword phrases from your list . I typically will focus on using three different phrase for each article. As a rule of thumb I try to write articles that concentrate on three keyword phrases. Each new article I write concentrates on 3 new keyword phrases or a variation of existing ones I have used. When you are writing your articles make sure that you do not repeat your keyword phrase but every 100 words. For example, if I were going to write an article that included “crappie fishing” in my first paragraph , then I could not repeat this phrase for 100 words. There are some twists you could use like mixing it up and instead of using “crappie fishing you could use “crappie angling” Its up to you. Just don’t repeat the same phrase in a 100 word count, the search engines penalize you for doing so and your article will not score well. There are ways to write your article using key word phrases without compromising the quality of your article so always proof read your article at least several times before publishing.

#4 Create a list of article directories to submit your article too. There are some steps to this that I recommend you use because all article directories are not created equal. You need to build a list of directories that prioritized by their Google rankings. To get a listing of directories just do a search using the key word “article directory” as your search term. The results will give you 1000’nds of sites to use in your list development. There are two sites you must put on your list right now and they are ezinearticles.com and searchwarp.com. Now to prioritize these sites for my list, I use a free website ranking tool that works great for this application. Just go to Google and do a search using the keyword phrase “Google website ranking tools” this should bring up a list of sites that offer this tool. Or you can contact me and I send you the link to the tool I use. Just a note when developing a list use sites with rankings of 6,5,4,3 first, these sites will get you some traffic over time.
